Are lab-grown diamonds real diamonds?

Yes. A lab-grown diamond is carbon in the same crystal structure as a mined diamond, with the same hardness, refractive index and fire. A gemologist cannot tell them apart by eye — separating them requires instruments that read the stone's growth pattern. Every diamond Purael sells is laboratory-grown, and we say so on the product page, the invoice and the grading report.

How are they grown?

From a diamond seed, by one of two methods: chemical vapor deposition (CVD), where carbon is deposited layer by layer from a plasma, or high pressure high temperature (HPHT), which reproduces the conditions found deep in the earth. Both take a few weeks and both produce gem-quality crystals that are then cut and polished exactly as mined rough is.

Will a lab-grown diamond hold up to daily wear?

It is a 10 on the Mohs scale, the same as any other diamond, so it will not scratch in normal wear. What does wear is the metal around it — which is why our warranty includes a free assessment from photographs at any time, and one reimbursed visit to a local jeweler for inspection and prong tightening.

Do lab-grown diamonds hold their value?

Treat fine jewelry as something to wear rather than as an investment. Diamonds of any origin resell well below retail, and lab-grown prices have fallen as production capacity has grown. What you gain is size and quality for the budget: a lab-grown stone typically costs a fraction of a mined stone of the same weight, color and clarity.

Does my diamond come with a grading report?

Stones of 0.5 carat and above are supplied with an independent report from IGI or GIA, and the report number appears on your invoice. For smaller accent stones, grading is specified as a range rather than certified individually, which is standard practice across the industry.

Can I verify the report myself?

Yes, and you should. Each laboratory publishes a report lookup on its own website: enter the report number and compare what is shown with the paperwork in the box. Larger stones also carry a laser inscription of that number on the girdle, readable under 10x magnification by any jeweler.

What do the four Cs mean in practice?

Carat is weight, color runs from D (colorless) downwards, clarity describes internal features, and cut governs how the stone returns light. Cut matters most to how a diamond actually looks — a well-cut stone one color grade lower will out-sparkle a poorly cut stone with better paperwork.

What metals do you use?

Product pages list the metal options available for each design, with the alloy stated — for example 18K yellow, white or rose gold, or platinum. White gold is rhodium-plated for its bright finish; that layer wears over a year or two, and any good jeweler can re-plate it.

Can I have a piece made to my own design?

Yes. Send us a reference, a budget and a deadline, and a specialist will work through the stone, the setting and the metal with you, then issue a written quote with a fixed specification and a production window. Production takes 3–4 weeks once you approve it.

What is the difference between an in-stock and a made-to-order piece?

An in-stock piece is finished and ready, dispatched in 1–3 business days, and returnable for 30 days. A made-to-order piece is built for you, takes 3–4 weeks, and is final sale once you approve the specification. The product page tells you which one you are looking at.

Can I have a piece engraved?

Yes, on designs with a suitable flat surface. Engraving adds 2 business days to production and makes the piece final sale, so check the spelling on your written confirmation carefully before approving it.

Can I see the stone before I commit?

For a made-to-order piece, yes. We photograph and video the selected stone against its report, and share it with you before setting. Ask your specialist when you approve the quote.

How do I find my ring size?

Accepted Answer

Our guide covers four ways to measure at home and converts millimeters to US, UK, EU and Japanese sizes. Measure at the end of the day, when fingers are at their largest, and take the reading twice. We stock US 4 – US 10; anything outside that range is cut to order.

What if the size is wrong when it arrives?

The first resize is free within 60 days of delivery, up to two sizes in either direction, for any design whose construction allows it.

Are there rings that cannot be resized?

Accepted Answer

Yes — full eternity bands, tension-set rings, rings with a continuous pavé shank cannot be resized without rebuilding the ring, because the stones or the structure run continuously around the band. Those product pages say so, and for a surprise proposal we would steer you towards a design that can be adjusted.

I am buying a surprise gift and do not know their size.

Borrow a ring they already wear on the right finger and measure its inside diameter, or ask us — a solitaire in a common size can be ordered and resized free within the window if it misses.

How much is shipping?

Nothing. Every order ships free, fully insured, to 29 countries and regions across Asia, Europe, North America, Oceania and South America, with no minimum order value.

Will I have to pay customs duty or import tax?

Accepted Answer

No. Orders ship Delivered Duty Paid: Purael pays the duties and destination taxes, and the total shown at checkout is the total you pay. If a carrier ever asks you for duty on a Purael order, forward the request to us instead of paying it.

How long will delivery take?

Processing takes 1–3 business days for an in-stock piece, then transit of one to eight business days depending on the destination. The shipping page lists transit times region by region.

Does someone need to sign for the parcel?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Every shipment is insured and requires an adult signature — jewelry is never left unattended or with a neighbor. If nobody is home, the carrier holds the parcel for 5 business days and attempts redelivery.

Can I ship to a different address, or send it as a gift?

Yes. Enter a separate delivery address at checkout and add a gift note; the parcel contains no invoice or price. We cannot ship to PO boxes, parcel lockers or freight forwarders, because of the signature requirement.

Can I return a piece?

Stocked pieces can be returned within 30 days of delivery, unworn and complete with their box and grading report. We send a prepaid, insured label and refund in full, including the duties we prepaid. Made-to-order, custom and engraved pieces are final sale.

How long does a refund take?

We inspect within 3 business days of arrival and issue the refund within 5 business days after that, to the original payment method. Your bank then takes a further 3 to 10 business days to post it.

What does the warranty cover?

Manufacturing defects, for the life of the piece — a stone lost to a faulty setting, a clasp that separates, porous casting. It also includes a free assessment from photographs and one visit to a local jeweler, approved in advance and reimbursed up to US$200, for cleaning, polishing or prong tightening. Accidental damage, ordinary wear, loss and work done by another jeweler without our approval are not covered, but we quote those repairs before starting them.

How should I clean my jewelry at home?

Warm water, a drop of unscented dish soap and a soft toothbrush, then rinse and pat dry with a lint-free cloth. Avoid chlorine, bleach and home ultrasonic cleaners, and take rings off for the gym, swimming and sleep.
